Wade Freitag, Owner
Wade’s love of older homes led him to get a degree in Interior Architecture from the University of Oregon in 1985. His 27 years of experience include design of restaurants, retail spaces, museum exhibits and theater set lighting and design. Since founding Craftsman Design in 1995, Wade has won numerous awards for the design and renovation of older homes in Portland. Married with one daughter, Wade enjoys travel, hiking in the Cascades and bird watching.

Chelly Wentworth, CKD, CBD, CAPS, Senior Designer, VP of Professional Development at NKBA
Chelly, a Certified Kitchen Designer, Certified Bathroom Designer, and
Certified Aging in Place Specialist, got her start in design eight years ago, working with a top interior design firm in Palo Alto, California. Upon moving to Portland, she quickly became one of the leading designers for our largest competitor. You may have attended one of the many seminars she has given or seen her work published in Portrait of Portland, Portland Homes or The Oregonian. Chelly joined us because our company shares her standard of excellence and her quality of service. She's married and has two stepchildren and two Labrador Retrievers. If she's not cooking or entertaining in the 1925 English Cottage she renovated, she might be hiking, doing yoga, watching an old movie or sipping wine from her collection.

Andy Simons, Lead Carpenter
One of our first employees, Andy impressed us with his skills and unflappability. He joined Craftsman Design because of a passion for working on Portland’s older homes, including his own. Andy enjoys free time with his wife and toddler son, especially when biking, camping or gardening. We happen to know he’s also one loyal friend, as evidenced by the large group of hometown buddies who made the long trip from Alaska to attend his recent wedding.

Jonny Simons, Production Manager
It must be genetics. Jonny, like his brother Andy, quickly exhibited the skill set requisite to become a lead carpenter. An exacting tradesman, Jonny says he enjoys “working for a company that cares about the details. Knowing that the end product will look great makes it worth all the time and care I put into building each project.” Married with two boys and one girl, he loves the outdoors and teaching his kids how to enjoy life.

Nathan Maszy, Carpenter
The opportunity to work on Portland’s vintage homes drew Nathan to Craftsman Design, where, he says, he also enjoys the family atmosphere and fellow team members. A life-long Portlander, Nathan has 20 years in the trades, the last 15 as a finish carpenter. In his leisure time, he enjoys time with his wife, 6-year-old son, and friends; playing and watching sports; and renovating his 1922 Craftsman home.

Noah Jay-Bonn, Carpenter
Having worked as a painter, tiler and carpenter, specializing in refinishing, Noah appreciates Craftsman Design because of our “high level of quality work.” When not out in the field, he might be found performing with his band mates here in town or on the road, touring. While modest about the band’s first album release, he unhesitatingly claims to own “the cutest dog in the world.” |
 |
Pete Kelly, Carpenter
Pete attributes his love of older homes to growing up in Portland. “I love old Portland homes; being able to work on them and help beautify the city drew me to this company,” he says. He started making his hometown more beautiful when he was 19 and began painting houses and then segued into residential remodeling. Single with a 9-year-old son, he works on vintage cars, builds custom bikes, and welds artwork and functional pieces. Although he doesn’t like to brag, Pete, under direct questioning, will own up to being a contestant in the first season of the HGTV series “All American Handyman.”

Ari Freitag, File Clerk
Admittedly, we’re kind of partial to this employee. Although she doesn’t yet plan to be an architect, Ari has designs on a major in art and biology when she enters college next year. In the meantime, she enjoys photographing old buildings and collecting cameras, both vices picked up from her dad. She also loves music, painting, travel, rock climbing, reading, biking and the outdoors.
