Not every client wants a home that’s all of a piece. When the owners of this 1909 Bungalow sought a basement conversion that intentionally broke away from the rest of the house, we delivered an entertainment room that was minimalist in style but not impact.
Streamlining the room included redirecting and enclosing the heating duct and other utilities within one central soffit. We excavated the floor to increase ceiling height, revamped the stairway for greater headroom, and installed egress windows. A concrete floor with integrated color in a soft brown creates a neutral, durable backdrop for the residents’ colorful art collection, highlighted in built-in displays with custom lighting.
Appreciated most by the client, the room is insulated and wired for entertainment, so the movies and music that play in the basement, stay in the basement.
