1908 Bungalow Iconoclastic Kitchen

This kitchen was customized for better efficiency and also to reflect the clients’ enthusiasms for art, music and beer.  We created a streamlined profile and more counter space by adding cabinets and building in appliances.  On the sink wall, a built-in butcher block is about six inches lower than the rest of the counter to accommodate one resident’s petite stature.

Since the clients wanted to keep the brick chimney, we made use of the minimal cabinetry space in front of it by disguising a flip-down seat behind a cabinet front, so the family musician can serenade the cook.  We also salvaged their prized vintage sink with built-in drain boards, custom fit the cabinets to accommodate it, and found plumbing fixtures for retrofitting.

For these home brewers, we installed a built-in kegerator below the countertop with a tap drilled through the surface.  A bottle opener serves as a drawer pull above the recycling can that pulls out from a cabinet to catch the cap as it pops off.

Sustainable materials -- paperstone countertop, cork floor and glass tile backsplash –synergize for an individualistic look.
