This wonderful Portland home was blessed with an open floor plan, many windows, boxed beam ceilings, fir built-ins, and an inviting fireplace.
The kitchen layout was slightly modified to accommodate modern appliances.
The stained fir cabinets take a cue from the original dining room hutch and feature authentic detailing and glass uppers. The original countertops and backsplash were replicated in custom colors to match. Hex tiles on the counter tops and subway tile with a liner accent on the backsplash were used. The tile box cap edge, ¼ round and soap holder are exact copies of the original tile and lend to the authentic look of this kitchen. The floor is made of earth friendly and historically accurate linoleum. The inlaid border is an important period detail. The new wood work and trim was stained to match the existing wood trim and care was taken to replicate the original moldings, doors and windows. This kitchen is a shining example of a historically appropriate renovation.
