Modern and vintage can coexist beautifully, as this updated kitchen attests with its sleek mix of new stainless steel appliances and frame-and-panel cabinetry. Streamlining this compact kitchen, we recessed the refrigerator into a custom-built cabinet surround and replaced the segmented look of tiled countertops with smooth soapstone.
Our standard green practices back up the beauty of this kitchen. Saving much of the existing cabinetry, we refaced it with Forest Stewardship Council Certified sustainable wood and formaldehyde-free panels. We used no-VOC paint throughout and patched the existing red oak floors at modified areas, ‘spot’ finishing them and blending them into the existing floors, rather than wholesale replacement or refinishing them. Removed appliances and fixtures were recycled through the Rebuilding Center for re-use, and all debris was recycled through appropriate facilities.
