As in so many Portland neighborhoods, these clients were surrounded by green views which they wanted to bring into their home, along with a fresh look and a more open feel.
Eliminating unnecessary half walls, expanding doorways and replacing solid doors with double French doors gave this house breathing room and shared views of the front and back yards.
Removing a divider wall of cabinetry opened up the kitchen and created entertaining and eating space on a wide-end countertop. Cherry wood, stainless steel, matte glass mosaic tile, and a light-colored marmoleum now gleam under pendant and recessed lighting.
We similarly updated the adjacent living room by removing a stone façade from the fireplace, adding a black granite hearth and a built-in buffet with black granite countertop.
