AKBD® – An Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer is a certified professional with a minimum of 2 years of kitchen/bath industry experience – they are knowledgeable in product selection, space planning, mechanical systems, materials and finishes. An AKBD must meet specific educational requirements, as well as pass a comprehensive academic exam.

CBD® - Certified Bathroom Designers also have a minimum of 7 years experience designing residential bathroom spaces – they are highly skilled in design, space planning, and product selection, and have extensive knowledge of building codes, fixtures, flooring materials, and mechanical/plumbing systems. They write specifications and draw plans that are easily interpreted by plumbers, electricians, and installers. A CBD must meet specific educational requirements, as well as pass a comprehensive academic and practical exam.

CKD® – Certified Kitchen Designers have a minimum of 7 years experience designing residential kitchen spaces. CMKBD® – A Certified Master Kitchen and Bath Designer is a designer who has obtained both CKD and CBD certification, has over 10 years of kitchen /bath industry experience, and has been nationally recognized through design competitions, industry awards, printed publications, or television spots. A CMKBD must also meet specific educational requirements.

CR – Certified Remodeler
NARI-Certified Remodelers are professional remodelers who provide a full range of remodeling services. To become a CR, candidates must possess skills and knowledge in a broad range of business management and technical skill areas. To quality for the CR designation, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be employed by or own a firm that derives at least 90% of its sales volume through remodeling work
- Adhere to NARI’s Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics
- Have a minimum of five years of continuous experience in the remodeling industry
- Completed 16 hours of continuing education
- Successfully complete a one-day written examination addressing 20 knowledge areas related to general remodeling practices and business

CAPS – Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist
The CAPS designation program teaches the technical, business management, and customer service skills essential to competing in the fastest-growing segment of the residential remodeling industry: home modifications for the aging-in-place.

CLC – Certified Lead Carpenter
CLC’s are the hands-on field personnel who oversee every aspect of the project: customer satisfaction, personnel management, administration, etc., while working on the project. To qualify for the CLC designation, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Have a minimum of five years of continuous practice in the remodeling industry, with at least two of those years as a lead carpenter – defined as a remodeling professional who is involved in tasks and has responsibilities beyond the technical production aspects of a project; he or she is responsible for customer contact and communication, supervision of subcontractors and employees, managing the job site, scheduling, and safety issues.
- Adhere to NARI’s Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
- Successfully completed a comprehensive application that details their background and experience.
- Successfully complete a half-day written examination on pre-construction issues, technical knowledge, and special skills (people and job management).
